Acacia melanoxylon
Blackwood acacia
Distinguishing feature: Parallel veins in the leaves.
- Type: Evergreen.
- Form in maturity: Upright or rounded.
- Leaf: Narrow, dark green, 2-4 inches long by 1/4 -1/2 inch wide with three to five light green parallel veins.
- Flower: Fluffy, pale yellow, occurring in spring.
- Bark: Smooth when young, thickening to become lightly furrowed, grayish dark brown.
- Fruit or seed: Flat, brown and twisted, resembling pea pods, ripening in summer.
